In March and April, 2016, Lensational exhibited images seen from the eyes of the ‘Surfer Girls’ of Cox’s Bazar
and garment factory workers in Dhaka, Bangladesh at Rich Mix London. These intimate snapshots de ed conventional tropes of oppression in a locale where the textile industry remains haunted by labour rights abuses and sur ng for girls remains frowned upon. The artworks in the exhibition incorporated photographic prints and the use of augmented reality, to bring faraway images from Bangladesh to life in London.
The exhibition attempted to showcase the perspectives of these women while unravelling traditional assumptions of Bangladesh layer-by-layer, wave upon wave – chronicling their personal journeys toward self-hood with a click of the shutter.
