Lensational has worked in Chennai India with with small groups of girls from two NGOs: the Down’s Syndrome Federation of India and from the Nalandaway Foundation. The girls were taught the basics of photography and were taken to different locations to shoot on different days. Their photographs were selected to be showcased at the Chennai Photo Biennale, a non-profit initiative organized by the Goethe-Institut Chennai and Travelling Lens.
Chennai Photo Biennale offers the strong photographic communities of South India an opportunity to engage with celebrated practitioners from around the world, including World Press Photo Award-winners Pablo Bartholomew, Denis Dailleux and Philip Blenkinsop. The festival is featured by National Geographic and the exhibition debuts from Fri Feb 26 to Sun Mar 13, with exhibitions in public parks, train stations, art galleries, and malls across the city. Their selected works were exhibited at a public train station – Thiruvanmiyur MRTS station – where footfall is at least 10,000 per day, at one of India’s most well-known IT hubs.
